  • The Director of the FACEA Institute of Economics, Dr. Felix Fuders, was recognized for his research published last year by the Springer Nature publishing house.

“I hope that with this recognition the book will be even more well received by academia and politics, representing a great opportunity to at some point change the ‘collision course’, to quote my dear colleague Manfred Max-Neef, on which our world finds itself.”

This was expressed by the Director of the Institute of Economics of the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences of the UACh, Dr. Felix Fuders, who received the “First Prize for Research and Innovation in Sustainability in Higher Education Institutions”, within the framework of the seminar “Promoting Research and Innovation in Sustainability in Higher Education Institutions”, an event that took place on Friday, July 12 at the Autonomous University of Chile.

The recognition was organized by the Sustainable Campus Network, to which 40 higher education institutions belong, in collaboration with the Network of State Universities “Commitment to Sustainable Development” of CUECH and Metared S of Universia.

Eight awards were given. In the line of research, Dr. Fuders – who is also Coordinator of the Right Livelihood College of the UACh – was recognized for his work “How to Fulfill the UN Sustainability Goals – Rethinking the Role and Concept of Money in the Light of Sustainability”, which was published last year by Springer Nature, under the same title.

Dr. Fuders commented that he has been researching the topic since 2007 and that it was “a pleasant surprise” and he felt “very honored, happy and excited” to receive this award.

The Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences at UACh, Dr. Egon Montecinos, highlighted the Recognition for Research and Innovation in Sustainability awarded to Dr. Félix Fuders for his work. “For FACEA, this award is a source of pride because it allows us to make visible Dr. Fuders’ research in a subject that is of great interest to our Faculty, where we believe that an economy compatible with sustainable development is possible and absolutely necessary, in a context of climate change and planetary challenges,” said the Dean.

For her part, the Head of the UACh Sustainability Office, Mónica Alacid, said that “this is the first recognition given in Chile by these three organizations that are pioneers and leaders in sustainability in our country. Therefore, this recognition is undoubtedly very relevant and gives prestige to Prof. Félix Fuders, FACEA and the Universidad Austral de Chile.”

It is worth remembering that the “Red Campus Sustentable”, to which the UACh has also belonged since 2017, is an association of higher education institutions and professionals, dedicated to promoting sustainability in higher education, with the aim of generating the transformations that society requires to be sustainable. It has alliances, including with the Agency for Sustainability and Climate Change, “Huella Chile” and ARIUSA – Alliance of Ibero-American Networks of Universities for Sustainability and the Environment.
