RLA Laureate Vandana Shiva at RLC Campus Santa Cruz


From January 25-26, 2020, food activist and Right Livelihood Award Laureate of 1993 Vandana Shiva visited the RLC Campus at UC Santa Cruz.

Shiva, who received the Award for “placing women and ecology at the heart of modern development discourse”, was in conversation with Anthropology Professor Nancy Chen on January 25.

The next day, Shiva participated in an all-day workshop with the topic “Poison-Free, Fossil-Free Food and Farming.” She was joined by Julie Guthman, professor of social sciences; Sarait Martinez, Safe Ag, Safe Schools; Zen Honeycutt, founding executive director of Moms Across America; and Mackenzie Feldman, founder of Herbicide-Free Campus. The workshop was moderated by Tim Galarneau, community engaged education coordinator at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS), and facilitated by David Shaw, coordinator of the Right Livelihood College at UCSC.
