February 2018, RLC Bonn Senior Researcher Prof Eva Youkhana and RLC scholar Amit Kumar met with Mr. Santosh Thorat, activist of the Ghar Banao Bachao Aandolan movement, led by RLA Laureate Medha Patkar. They discussed the critical role that the urban poor play in providing services to its residents, despite the legal status of ‘illegality’. At the RLC Campus at TISS, both researchers presented their work to faculty members and students; Prof. Dr. Eva Youkhana spoke on “The role of higher education for the SDGs: perspectives from Latin America”. Amit Kumar presented his field research data on “Self-Organization and Mobilization of Slum Dwellers in Urban India” which he collected in  cooperation with Ghar Banao Ghar Bachao Aandolan.
